Battery, Range, and Charging
The battery has a gross capacity of 55.0 kWh and a net usable capacity of 52.0 kWh, with a 3.0 kWh buffer (5.5%) for battery protection. With a nominal voltage of 352 volts, the system is classified as a 400-volt battery system.
The lithium-ion battery uses NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) chemistry.
Under the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure) standard, the maximum rated range is 370 km (230 miles). Depending on the configuration and options such as wheel size, the rated range can be as low as 365 km (227 miles). Larger wheels generally increase energy consumption and reduce range.
WLTP energy consumption is 14.1 kWh/100 km for the base configuration and 14.2 kWh/100 km for the highest-consumption configuration.

The vehicle supports fast DC charging with a maximum power of 120 kW. A 0–100% charge takes approximately 58 minutes. A typical 10–80% session takes about 31 minutes at an average power of 70 kW.
With five minutes of overhead per stop, the optimal charging window is 0–45%. Effective average power, including overhead, is 74 kW over a session lasting about 19 minutes and 5 seconds.
In a 1000 km challenge at a constant speed of 120 km/h (75 mph) with an assumed consumption rate of 22 kWh/100 km, the trip would take about 10 hours and 39 minutes, needing six charging stops from 0% to 54%, totaling 139 minutes of charging time.
Onboard Charger
The standard onboard charger supports AC charging at up to 11 kW. A full 0–100% charge takes about 4 hours and 43 minutes with a suitable home charging setup.
Charge Port
The location of the charge port is on the right rear side. This placement makes it easy to use charging stations that require backing up to connect.

Drivetrain
The Volkswagen ID.5 Pure has a rear-wheel drive system supported by one motor on the rear axle.

Suspension

The driver can choose between 4 modes:
- Eco: Light steering effort and comfort-oriented throttle response.
- Comfort: Balanced steering and throttle.

Brakes
The Volkswagen ID.5 Pure uses disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. Rear drum brakes require little maintenance and pair well with regenerative braking, which handles most deceleration.
The front discs are 358 mm.
Regenerative Braking
The regenerative braking system in this model offers several modes. The most efficient option is the Automatic Regeneration Mode, where the vehicle coasts when possible and employs regenerative braking to reduce speed as needed.
Manual regeneration is another mode, where regenerative braking is controlled by pressing the brake pedal. The brake system blends in physical brakes only when necessary.
Another option is the Regen on Accelerator Pedal mode where regenerative braking is activated when the driver eases off the accelerator pedal. This system allows the vehicle to slow down and recover energy without the driver needing to press the brake pedal, a feature often referred to as one-pedal driving.
Drivers can also adjust the regenerative braking strength when lifting off the accelerator, choosing between two levels.
The maximum regenerative braking power is 100 kW.

The Volkswagen ID.5 Pure is classified as a compact SUV (C-SUV). It measures 4599 mm long, 1852 mm wide, and 1615 mm tall.

The Volkswagen ID.5 Pure offers multiple wheel options in different sizes. The available tire and wheel combinations include:

Narrower wheels reduce energy consumption and can increase range, while wider wheels can improve traction and handling.
The car has four regular doors and a liftgate.
You can choose an option to have the liftgate electrically powered. You can also have the liftgate with a kick sensor, making it possible to open it by just kicking the foot under the tailgate.
There are two different roof options to select from.
A conventional roof is standard.
An optional panoramic glass roof covers most of the roof area and has an opening front section, making the cabin feel brighter and more spacious. An electric sunshade helps protect occupants from direct sunlight.
Privacy glass from the B-pillar rearward is optional. It reduces glare and solar heat.

This model features a dual-screen setup that separates driver information from infotainment functions.

Navigation System

Sound System

Lights
You can choose between two types of headlights for the Volkswagen ID.5 Pure.
- Standard Headlights: These use LED technology and include corner lights that illuminate the side when turning.
- LED Matrix Headlights: Available as an upgrade, this adaptive system divides the traditional headlight beam into dozens of smaller rays that the light controller can activate or deactivate individually. This optimizes lighting by selectively dimming specific areas to avoid dazzling oncoming traffic. The lights swivel when turning to illuminate the direction of travel. It includes corner lights that illuminate the side when turning.
The taillights use LED technology.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
The Volkswagen ID.5 Pure offers standard and optional advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
Efficiency Assist: A Standard feature that helps drivers anticipate driving conditions and conserve energy.
Safety Systems
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS): Standard on the Volkswagen ID.5 Pure. It prevents the wheels from locking during braking.
Electronic Stability Control (ESC): Standard on the Volkswagen ID.5 Pure. It improves stability during sudden maneuvers and on slippery roads.
Lane-Keeping Assist (LKA): Standard on the Volkswagen ID.5 Pure. It applies steering corrections if the vehicle begins to leave its lane.
The Lane Departure Warning alerts the driver if the vehicle begins to leave its lane.
Front Cross Traffic Assist (FCTA): Standard on the Volkswagen ID.5 Pure. It detects traffic crossing ahead when entering an intersection or pulling away from a stop.
Forward Collision Warning (FCW): Standard on the Volkswagen ID.5 Pure. It warns the driver of a potential frontal collision.
Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB): Standard on the Volkswagen ID.5 Pure. It applies the brakes automatically if the driver does not respond to an imminent collision.
Automatic Emergency Steering (AES): Standard on the Volkswagen ID.5 Pure. The system can steer automatically to help avoid an imminent collision.
Blind-spot Monitoring (BSM): Optional on the Volkswagen ID.5 Pure. It detects traffic in the vehicle's blind spots.
Exit Warning: Optional on the Volkswagen ID.5 Pure. It warns occupants not to open a door when it detects approaching traffic or another hazard.
Driving Automation
The Volkswagen ID.5 Pure offers driving automation at levels 1 or 2, depending on the equipment level.
The Level 1 IQ.DRIVE system provides the following driving automation features.
The optional Assistantpackage plus SAE Level 2 system adds the following features:
- Lane Centering Assist (LCA) / AutoSteer: Centers the vehicle in its lane and adjusts speed in traffic. The driver must keep their hands on the steering wheel and remain attentive.

The Volkswagen ID.5 Pure includes the following security and access features:
- Keyless Entry and Start: With the standard keyless start and optional keyless entry, you can unlock and start the vehicle seamlessly without removing the key from your pocket or bag.
- Phone-as-Key Functionality: The optional phone-as-key feature lets you use your smartphone to unlock and start the vehicle.
- Alarm System: Monitors for unauthorized entry or tampering and sounds the alarm when triggered.
Cargo Capacity and Towing Ability
The trunk offers a cargo capacity of 549 liters (19.4 cu ft). With the rear seat folded down, this expands to 1561 liters (55.1 cu ft).
The maximum roof load is 75 kg (165.3 lb).
The maximum permitted vehicle weight is 2650 kg (5842 lbs), and the base curb weight is 2042 kg (4502 lbs). This leaves a payload of 608 kg (1340 lbs), including occupants. Options can increase curb weight and reduce payload.
A towbar can be added to the vehicle. The maximum permissible weight for a braked trailer is 1000 kg (2205 lbs), while for an unbraked trailer, it is 750 kg (1653 lbs).

The Volkswagen ID.5 Pure had its world premiere on 10/10/2023, with deliveries starting in November 2023.
