Performance

The Volvo EM90 has a maximum power of 200 KW (272 hp/268 bhp). The total torque is 686 nm (506 ft-lb). It performs the 0-100km/h sprint (0-62mph) in 8.3 seconds. The top speed is 190 km/h.

Battery, range, and charging

The battery has a gross capacity of 116kWh and a net capacity of 110kWh, meaning you have a 6kWh buffer for protection. (5.2%). The Lithium-Ion battery uses NMC technology.

The maximum DC charging speed is 200kW. A full charge from 0 - 100% would take 66 minutes, while a more common scenario of 10-80% would take 31 minutes. If you assume you lose 5 minutes driving per charge stop in addition to the charge time, the optimum charge area is from 5% to 55%, resulting in an actual charge speed, including time loss, of 139kW. Each charge session would take 24 minutes and 48 seconds.

For the theoretical 1000km challenge, starting with a full battery and driving at 120km/h (75 mph), assuming optimal driving conditions and consumption of 28kWh/100km, 1000km will take 9 hours and 34 minutes. This trip will require three charge session(s) charging from 4% to 56%. The total time lost for charging up the battery will be 74 minutes.

Onboard charger

For level 1 and level 2 AC charging, the onboard charger supports up to 11 KW charging. As a result, you can charge the battery 0-100% from home in about 10 hours and 0 minutes.

Charge port

The location of the charge port is on the left rear side. This location makes it easy to use charge stations where you need to back up into the charger. The connector types vary between the different markets. This model uses CCS Combo 1 for North America and for Europe, CCS Combo 2. See full specifications for all markets.

Drivetrain

Volvo EM90 has a rear-wheel drive system supported by one motor on the rear axle. The motor(s) used are Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors.

The front suspension is double wishbone, and the rear suspension is Multilink. It uses air suspension and hydraulic dampers. The suspension is fully adaptive on the front and rear axle, so height and damping can be adjusted manually and automatically. The minimum ground clearance is 162 mm, and the maximum is 192 mm.

Brakes

The rear and front brakes are cast-iron discs. The front discs are 533mm, and the rear discs are 457mm.

Regenerative braking is available through one-pedal driving combined with blended brakes. Automatic regen is not available in this model.

Exterior

You can choose between 3 different paint colors when ordering this model. Additionally, you can choose between 2 wheels with sizes from 19 to 20 inches.

The car has two regular doors in the first row, sliding doors in the second row and a tailgate. Powered doors are a standard function for the side doors.

There is only one roof for this model. The standard roof has a large panoramic roof extending over most areas from the front to the rear. This glass makes the car’s interior feel more spacious and bright, which can improve the mood and comfort of the occupant. The glass is toned to protect against heat from the sun.

The windows from B-pillar and back are tinted.

Interior

The seat layout is six seats with two in front, two captain chairs in the second row, and a two-seat bench in the third row.

First row seats

Only one front seat type is available in the Volvo EM90.

Second-row seat

The third row has a two-seat bench with a 40:60 split. Again, you can fold down the seats when not used to create a larger cargo capacity.

There is only one type of steering wheel available.

Climate system

There is one climate system available. The climate system supports different temperatures in three zones for the driver, passenger and backseat. This model has a heat pump as standard. This heat pump can save significant energy that the EV would use for heating in cold weather.

Comfort

Volvo EM90 has several features to make your life as a driver or passenger more comfortable.

Keyless entry allows access to the car without needing to find the key. As long you bring it with you, the doors open.

Keyless go makes it possible to start the car without using the key.

The steering wheel is electrically adjustable.

You have wireless charging for your phone.

User interface and control

The Volvo EM90 has multiple integrated screens. Behind the steering wheel is a digital instrument cluster, and in the center console, there is one infotainment screen at the top of the center console. The screen behind the steering wheel integrated into the dashboard is 10.2 inches large. The touch screen at the top of the center console is 15.4 inches large. For the rear seat passengers, there is an infotainment screen in the roof behind the first row seats. The model does not have a head-up display.

This model is equipped with voice control as standard. The voice control lets you control some functionality through voice commands.

Infotainment

One type of sound system is available for the Volvo EM90. With the Bowers & Wilkins Sound System, you get 21 speakers with a max system output of 500 watts.

In addition, with the standard in-car navigation system, you get the help you need to find your destination. Furthermore, the Volvo EM90 supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This functionality allows you to present your phone’s screen in the car’s screen so you can run apps like Google Maps or Waze.

The model has 3 USB-C connections as standard. The model has 1 USB-A connections as standard.

Lights

The standard headlights use LED technology. In addition, the standard taillights use LED technology.

Advanced driver assistance systems

The Volvo EM90 has several standard and optional advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) for better safety and comfort.

Efficiency Assist is a standard system that helps drivers to drive preemptively and save energy.

Safety systems

The Volvo EM90 has an Electronic Stability Control as a standard system designed to improve a vehicle’s stability and handling during sudden maneuvers or slippery road conditions.

The Volvo EM90 has a lane-keeping assist as a standard system. This system helps to prevent the car from getting out of its lane. In addition, it has a lane departure warning system that warns the driver if the vehicle leaves the driving lane.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert is a standard driver assist system that uses sensors to detect approaching vehicles from the side when backing out of a parking space or driveway.

Forward Collision Warning is a standard driver assist system to help drivers avoid or mitigate frontal collisions.

The Volvo EM90 has automatic emergency braking as a standard system. This system helps prevent or mitigate collisions by applying the brakes autonomously if the driver fails to react to an impending collision.

Driving Automation

With the Pilot Assist level 2 system, you get the following driving automation features.

• Adaptive Cruise control
• Lane Centering Assist (LCA) /AutoSteer: keeps the car in your lane and slows down if needed in traffic. The system limits how long you can drive without touching the steering wheel.

Cargo Capacity and Towing Ability

The cargo capacity in the trunk is 376 liters. With the third-row seat down, it is 2979 liters. On the roof, you can load up to 100 kg (220.5 lbs). Under the hood, there is frunk with more storage room. This frunk is 32 liters (1.1 CU FT). The maxium weight of the car is 3400 kg (7496 lbs), and with the base weight of 2763 kg (6091 lbs), you can max load 637 kg (1404 lbs), including driver and passengers. Some options can increase the base weight and reduce the maximum loading weight.

This model is not available with a towbar. So, to pull a trailer, you must look at other models.

This model had a world premiere on 12.11.2023, and deliveries is expected to start in March 2025. This model is only available in China.
