It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 6.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 180 km/h (112 mph), making it competitive within its class.

Battery, range, and charging

The high-capacity battery has a gross capacity of 82 kWh and a net usable capacity of 77 kWh, providing an 5 kWh buffer (6.1%) for battery protection. With a nominal voltage of 350 volts, the system is classified as a 400-volt battery system, aligning with industry standards.

According to the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure) standard, the vehicle’s range is 527 km (328 miles), with an energy consumption rate of 14.6 kWh/100 km (3 mi/kWh). The vehicle supports fast DC charging with a maximum power of 135 kW. Charging from 0% to 100% takes approximately 62 minutes, while a more typical charging scenario from 10% to 80% takes 35 minutes with an average charging speed at 94 kW. Considering an additional 5 minutes for each charging stop due to driving interruptions, the optimal charging range is from 2% to 43%. The location of the charge port is on the right rear side. This location makes it easy to use charge stations where you need to back up into the charger. Drivetrain

Steering

Brakes

The Volkswagen ID.4 Pro 4MOTION uses disc brakes in the front for superior stopping power and heat dissipation, while drum brakes are employed in the rear for cost efficiency and durability. Regenerative braking

The regenerative braking system in this model offers several modes to enhance efficiency and driving experience. The most efficient option is the Automatic Regeneration Mode, where the vehicle coasts when possible and employs regenerative braking to reduce speed as needed.

Manual regeneration is another mode, where regenerative braking is controlled by pressing the brake pedal. The brake system blends in physical brakes only when necessary.

Another option is the Regen on Accelerator Pedal mode where regenerative braking is activated when the driver eases off the accelerator pedal. This system allows the vehicle to slow down and recover energy without the driver needing to press the brake pedal, a feature often referred to as one-pedal driving.

The car has four regular doors and a liftgate.

There are two different roof options to select from. The standard is just a regular roof. As an option, you can order this model with a panoramic roof. The glass extends most of the roof, and occupants can open the front part. This glass makes the car’s interior feel more spacious and bright, which can improve the mood and comfort of the occupant. It has an electric curtain that occupants can use to protect against the sun.

Additionally, you can order the car with tinted windows from the B-pillar backward, which enhances privacy and reduces glare and heat from the sun, making the interior more comfortable for passengers.

The second row has a standard three-seat bench with a 60:40 split where you can fold each section separately to increase the cargo space. In addition, the following functionalities are available.

There is only one type of steering wheel available.

Climate system

You can choose from two different climate systems. The 2-zone Climatronic climate system supports different temperatures in two zones for the driver and passenger. The 3-zone climatronic climate system supports different temperatures in three zones for the driver, passenger and backseat. This model has a heat pump as standard. This heat pump can save significant energy that the EV would use for heating in cold weather.

Comfort

Volkswagen ID.4 Pro 4MOTION has several features to make your life as a driver or passenger more comfortable.

Keyless entry allows access to the car without needing to find the key. As long you bring it with you, the doors open.

Keyless go makes it possible to start the car without using the key.

You have wireless charging for your phone.

User interface and control

Two different screen setups are available on the Volkswagen ID.4 Pro 4MOTION.

The standard layout has the following configuration. Behind the steering wheel is a digital instrument cluster mounted on the steering wheel column, and on top of the dashboard is an infotainment screen. The screen on the steering column is 5.0 inches large. The touch screen on the dashboard’s center is 12.9 inches large.

The optional layout has the following configuration. Infotainment

You can choose between two sound systems on the Volkswagen ID.4 Pro 4MOTION. With the Sound system, you get six speakers with a max system output of 140 watts. With the Volkswagen Soundsystem, you get six speakers with a max system output of 450 watts.

In addition, with the optional in-car navigation system, you get the help you need to find your destination. Furthermore, the Volkswagen ID.4 Pro 4MOTION supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This functionality allows you to present your phone’s screen in the car’s screen so you can run apps like Google Maps or Waze.

The model has 4 USB-C connections as standard.

Lights

You can choose between two types of headlights for the Volkswagen ID.4 Pro 4MOTION. The standard headlights use LED technology. Headlights based on LED Matrix technology are available as an option. LED Matrix is an adaptive system that splits the traditional single headlight beam into dozens of smaller rays that the light controller can turn on and off individually to un-light small areas in front.

The Volkswagen ID.4 Pro 4MOTION has an anti-lock braking system (ABS) as a standard system. This system helps to prevent a vehicle’s wheels from locking up during braking.

The Volkswagen ID.4 Pro 4MOTION has an Electronic Stability Control as a standard system designed to improve a vehicle’s stability and handling during sudden maneuvers or slippery road conditions.

The Volkswagen ID.4 Pro 4MOTION has a lane-keeping assist as a standard system. This system helps to prevent the car from getting out of its lane. In addition, it has a lane departure warning system that warns the driver if the vehicle leaves the driving lane.

Front Cross Traffic Assist is a standard driver assist system that helps drivers detect oncoming traffic when crossing an intersection or turning left or right from a stopped position.

Forward Collision Warning is a standard driver assist system to help drivers avoid or mitigate frontal collisions.

Driving Automation

The Volkswagen ID.4 Pro 4MOTION offers driving automation on level 1 or 2, depending on the equipment level.

With the level 1 system, you get the following driving automation features.

• Adaptive Cruise control

With the Assistantpackage plus level 2 system, you get additional driving automation features to the ones listed above.

• Lane Centering Assist (LCA) /AutoSteer: keeps the car in your lane and slows down if needed in traffic. The system limits how long you can drive without touching the steering wheel.
• Automatic parking. (optional)

Cargo Capacity and Towing Ability

The cargo capacity in the trunk is 543 liters. With the rear seat down, it is 1575 liters. On the roof, you can load up to 75 kg (165.3 lbs). The maxium weight of the car is 2760 kg (6085 lbs), and with the base weight of 2232 kg (4921 lbs), you can max load 528 kg (1164 lbs), including driver and passengers. Some options can increase the base weight and reduce the maximum loading weight.

You can order the car with a towbar. The maximum total weight on a braked trailer is 1200, and on unbraked, it is 750 kg (2646/1653 lbs).
