The battery has a gross capacity of 135.0 kWh and a net usable capacity of 125.0 kWh, with a 10.0 kWh buffer (7.4%) for battery protection. With a nominal voltage of 400 volts, the system is classified as a 400-volt battery system.
The lithium-ion battery uses NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) chemistry.
According to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) standard, the vehicle has an range of 320 miles (515 km) with an energy consumption rate of 2.6 miles per kWh.

The vehicle supports fast DC charging with a maximum power of 207 kW. A 0–100% charge takes approximately 106 minutes. A typical 10–80% session takes about 43 minutes at an average power of 123 kW.
With five minutes of overhead per stop, the optimal charging window is 0–45%. Effective average power, including overhead, is 135 kW over a session lasting about 25 minutes and 55 seconds.
In a 1000 km challenge at a constant speed of 120 km/h (75 mph) with an assumed consumption rate of 30 kWh/100 km, the trip would take about 9 hours and 38 minutes, needing three charging stops from 0% to 47%, totaling 78 minutes of charging time.
Onboard Charger
The standard onboard charger supports AC charging at up to 11.5 kW. A full 0–100% charge takes about 10 hours and 52 minutes with a suitable home charging setup.
Charge Port
The location of the charge port is on the left front corner. This location makes it easy to use charge stations where you need to park with the front in.

Drivetrain
The Rivian R1S Performance Dual-Motor AWD LP features an all-wheel drive system powered by two motors, one on each axle.
Suspension
The Rivian R1S Performance Dual-Motor AWD LP features a double wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension, both with electronically controlled dampers and air springs.
The suspension is fully adaptive on the front and rear axle, so height and damping can be adjusted manually and automatically.
The minimum ground clearance is 205 mm, and the maximum is 365 mm.
The Easy Entry function lowers the car's body automatically when a door is opened, facilitating easier entry and exit. Once the door closes, the body returns to its previous level.
For easier loading, you can lower the air suspension from the rear.

The car has four regular doors and a split tailgate where the bottom part falls and the top part lifts.
There is only one roof option for this model.
The standard roof is a panoramic roof with two glass panels. One over the first and the second rows. This glass creates a more spacious and bright interior. Both glass panels are toned to protect against heat from the sun.
The windows behind the B-pillar are tinted for privacy and to reduce glare and solar heat gain.

The steering wheel adjusts for tilt and reach. The adjustment is electrically powered.
The standard easy-entry function retracts the steering wheel automatically when entering or exiting the vehicle.

Driving Automation
The standard Enhanced Highway Assist SAE Level 2 system includes the following driving automation features:

The maximum permitted vehicle weight is 3470 kg (7650 lbs), and the base curb weight is 3137 kg (6916 lbs). This leaves a payload of 333 kg (734 lbs), including occupants. Options can increase curb weight and reduce payload.
333 kg is considered low for this type of car and may limit how much cargo you can carry in addition to passengers.
A towbar can be added to the vehicle. The maximum permissible weight for a braked trailer is 3500 kg (7716 lbs), while for an unbraked trailer, it is 750 kg (1653 lbs).
