Blended Braking
Blended braking combines regenerative braking and friction braking to produce the requested vehicle deceleration.
How the blend changes
The controller allocates braking according to pedal or assistance-system demand, battery charge acceptance, motor limits, vehicle speed, axle grip, stability control, and component temperature. Regeneration can provide much of a gentle stop, while the friction brakes add force during hard braking or when regeneration is limited.
Good calibration keeps pedal response and deceleration predictable as the allocation changes. Blended braking is not the same as strong lift-off regeneration: blending can occur after a brake-pedal request even when the accelerator setting favors coasting. The friction system remains capable of supplying the required stopping force when regenerative torque falls suddenly or cannot be used.
