Lancia's history is one of the richest in the automotive world, with legendary achievements in rallying, groundbreaking engineering innovations, and iconic designs from models like the Stratos, Delta Integrale, and Aurelia. However, decades of underinvestment reduced the brand to selling a single aging model exclusively in Italy. Stellantis has now committed to reviving Lancia as a premium Italian brand with a complete renewal plan.
The new Lancia Ypsilon, launched in 2024, is the first model in this rebirth and is available in both electric and hybrid versions. The electric Ypsilon is built on Stellantis' STLA Small platform and features a distinctly Italian design with Art Deco-inspired interior elements, a modern infotainment system, and competitive specifications for the premium compact segment. It marks Lancia's return to markets beyond Italy, including France, Spain, and the Benelux countries.
Lancia's roadmap calls for two additional new models by 2028 — a new-generation Delta and a flagship model — both of which will be offered with fully electric powertrains. The brand aims to be completely electric by 2028, making it one of the earliest mainstream brands to commit to a full EV transition.
The revival of Lancia is a test of whether a heritage brand with strong emotional resonance can be successfully brought back to life in the electric era. With Stellantis providing platforms, manufacturing, and distribution, Lancia has the industrial backing to succeed, but it must rebuild brand awareness and dealer networks in markets where it has been absent for years.
