Jaguar's reimagination is one of the boldest moves in automotive history. In 2024, the brand announced it would cease production of all existing models — including the pioneering I-PACE electric SUV — and relaunch as a pure electric ultra-luxury brand positioned above its traditional competitors. The new Jaguar aims to compete with Bentley, Porsche, and even Rolls-Royce rather than its historical rivals like BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
The first glimpse of the new Jaguar came with the striking Type 00 design concept, unveiled in late 2024, which showcased a dramatically different design language emphasizing bold proportions, minimal detailing, and a strong artistic identity. The concept divided opinion but succeeded in generating enormous attention for the brand's new direction. The first production model, a large four-door GT, is expected to launch in 2026.
Under the skin, the new Jaguar EVs will ride on JLR's dedicated Jaguar Electrified Architecture (JEA), promising cutting-edge battery technology with over 400 miles of range, rapid charging, and advanced autonomous driving features. The brand is targeting a price point starting around $125,000, firmly in the ultra-luxury segment.
This transformation carries significant risk — Jaguar is essentially starting from scratch with a new customer base, new positioning, and an entirely new product range. However, JLR leadership believes this clean-break approach gives Jaguar its best chance of long-term survival and profitability in an increasingly electrified luxury market. The coming years will determine whether this gamble pays off.
