Friction Braking
Friction braking slows a vehicle by pressing pads or shoes against rotating brake surfaces and converting kinetic energy into heat.
Its role in an EV
An EV still needs friction brakes for emergency stops, low-speed operation, holding, stability intervention, and any time regenerative braking is restricted by battery, motor, traction, or temperature limits. EV friction brakes and brake blending
Regeneration reduces routine brake use, which can extend pad life but may leave iron discs vulnerable to corrosion. Brake blending and periodic brake-system strategies can keep response consistent. Friction braking describes the energy-conversion method; it includes both disc and drum brakes. Regenerative braking
Tyres and road grip ultimately limit stopping force, regardless of how large the brake hardware is.
