Solar-Control and Infrared-Reflective Glass
Solar-control glass is automotive glazing engineered to reduce solar energy entering a vehicle cabin. Infrared-reflective glass is one solar-control design that uses a coating or laminated film to reflect part of the infrared component of sunlight. How it is evaluated
Visible-light transmission and solar-heat control are separate properties. Dark privacy glass mainly reduces visible light and changes appearance; darkness alone does not prove strong heat rejection. Conversely, a pane can look comparatively clear while including infrared-reflective treatment.
ISO 13837 defines separate test methods for luminous, direct-solar, and total-solar transmittance in clear or tinted automotive safety glazing. Because these measurements describe different parts of glazing performance, an "IR rejection" claim alone does not establish the pane's total solar performance. What it means in an EV
Reducing solar load can improve comfort and reduce cooling demand after sun exposure. The energy effect for an EV depends on the installed panes, glass area, weather, cabin target temperature, HVAC efficiency, and journey.
