10–80% Charging Time

10–80% charging time is the elapsed time for an EV battery's displayed state of charge to rise from 10% to 80% during one charging session. It is commonly used to describe DC fast-charging performance across a practical part of the battery's operating window.

How to compare results

The metric is more informative than a peak-power number alone because it covers a substantial section of the Charge Curve. It still does not make every vehicle directly comparable. Batteries with different usable capacities add different amounts of energy across the same percentage window, and results depend on battery and ambient temperature, preconditioning, charger capability, vehicle software and the test's start and stop method.

A useful result therefore states the elapsed time, energy added, conditions and whether the value is manufacturer-rated or measured. Average Charging Power can then relate the added energy to the elapsed time. The metric does not describe charging below 10%, above 80% or the time required for a full charge.
