Average Charging Power

Average charging power is the energy added during a charging interval divided by the elapsed charging time, expressed in kilowatts (kW). The state-of-charge window and measurement boundary must be stated for the figure to be meaningful.

How it is calculated

For example, a calculation may use energy delivered by the charger or energy stored by the battery. Those values differ because charging equipment, cables, power electronics, battery conditioning and the battery itself consume or lose some energy. A fair comparison therefore uses the same boundary and the same method for every vehicle.

Average power describes the complete chosen interval, while Peak Charging Power records only its highest point. It should be calculated from energy and time, not from an unweighted average of occasional power-display readings. The result also depends on the selected state-of-charge window and the conditions of the session.
