Track Width
Track width is the lateral distance between the wheel centre lines on the same axle. Front and rear track widths can differ, and neither value is the same as the vehicle's body width.
Why it varies
Track width is part of the vehicle's chassis geometry and contributes to its stance and lateral behaviour. It must be considered together with centre of gravity, suspension design, tyres, wheel offset, and electronic control systems; a wider track alone does not prove that one vehicle will handle better than another.
Published values can depend on the wheel and tyre package and on the measurement convention. Optional wheels may change offset or tyre section without changing the body. Some specification sheets also round figures differently.
When comparing vehicles, use the value for the correct axle, variant, model year, and wheel package. Do not infer cabin width or garage clearance from track width; body width with or without mirrors is the relevant exterior measure. See Vehicle Dimensions and Mass for related dimensions.
