Reversing Camera
A reversing camera shows the area behind the vehicle when reverse is selected, helping the driver see low objects and the intended path. The camera is usually mounted near the tailgate or license plate and displays a wide-angle image.
What it does
The display may add fixed or steering-linked guidelines and can be combined with parking sensors or multiple camera views. A reversing camera provides an image; it is not the same as a proximity sensor, rear cross-traffic alert, or automatic braking, although a vehicle may include all of them.
Wide-angle distortion makes distance difficult to judge. Dirt, water, darkness, glare, weather, camera damage, a loaded trailer, and areas outside the lens can hide hazards. The image may also have a short delay. The driver must look through the windows and mirrors and check the full surroundings before and during reversing.
