Peak Charging Power
Peak charging power is the highest charging power an EV accepts during a defined charging session. It is a single point on the charge curve, not a measure of how quickly the full charging interval is completed.
What the number shows
The observed peak depends on the battery's state of charge and temperature, vehicle limits, preconditioning, charger capability and other session conditions. A charger's nameplate rating is therefore not the same as the power accepted by the vehicle. An advertised vehicle peak is also a ceiling rather than a promise that every session will reach or sustain it.
Peak power is useful for checking whether the vehicle and charger can briefly operate at a stated level. Average charging power and the elapsed time over a declared state-of-charge window are usually more representative of sustained charging performance.
