Laser Headlights
Laser headlights use laser diodes inside a sealed optical module to create a converted white light source for selected headlamp functions, most commonly a long-range high-beam booster.
How the light reaches the road
Blue laser light is directed at a fluorescent phosphor inside the headlamp. The phosphor converts it into bright white light before it leaves the optical system, so the original laser beam is not projected onto the road. BMW Group: laser-light source conversion in vehicle headlights
A vehicle can combine this compact, high-luminance source with conventional LED lighting. The low beam, daytime running lights, indicators, and much of the high-beam pattern may therefore remain LED-based while the laser module adds light at longer distances.
Important distinction
Laser describes the internal light-source technology. It does not describe how the beam is adapted around traffic. An adaptive system can use a laser module, LEDs, or another optical architecture, while matrix LED separately describes addressable LED segments. Adaptive Headlights Matrix LED Headlights
The presence of a laser module does not by itself establish real-world headlight performance. Optical design, beam control, aim, thermal management, vehicle configuration, and market-specific regulations all affect the usable result.
