Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)
Lane keeping assist (LKA) helps prevent an unintended lane departure by adding a brief steering or braking correction when the vehicle approaches or crosses a detected lane boundary. A forward camera normally identifies lane markings and estimates the vehicle’s position within the lane.
What it does
LKA intervenes after detecting a developing departure, provided its activation conditions are met and the turn signal does not indicate an intentional lane change. The input is usually limited and designed to prompt or assist the driver rather than control the lane position continuously. Lane centering assist is the distinct feature intended to provide continuous steering support near the center of a lane.
Poor or confusing markings, roadworks, snow, rain, glare, sharp bends, and camera obstruction can reduce availability or produce unexpected corrections. The driver must keep control of the steering wheel, monitor the road, and override the system when necessary.
