Electric-drivetrain NVH means the noise, vibration, and harshness produced or transmitted by the motor, inverter, gears, bearings, mounts, cooling system, and surrounding structure.

Why electric drives sound different

Electromagnetic forces can create tonal noise linked to motor speed and switching control. Torque ripple, cogging, rotor imbalance, bearings, gear mesh, pumps, and housing resonances add other orders and broadband sounds. A quiet combustion-free cabin can make these sources more noticeable even when total sound pressure is low.

Engineers address NVH through electromagnetic design, manufacturing tolerances, inverter control, gear finishing, cooling, mounts, housings, and vehicle-level isolation. The best solution depends on operating speed, torque, temperature, and load; one “quiet motor” number cannot describe the full vehicle.
