Boost Power
Boost power is a temporary increase in an EV's permitted propulsion output above its normal rating or mode. Manufacturers may enable it for hard acceleration, a launch function, or a performance mode.
What limits boost power
The extra output can be conditional on battery charge and temperature, motor and inverter temperature, cooling capacity, speed, traction, and a time or energy budget. Software may reduce it before the driver notices any conventional overheating warning.
“Boost” is a manufacturer-defined label, not a universal test standard. It may refer to one motor, a complete axle, or total vehicle output, so the duration, activation conditions, and measurement boundary must accompany the number. EV motor testing and ratings
A vehicle may also advertise the function under a mode name rather than as boost. Similar labels from different manufacturers are not necessarily comparable.
