Accelerator Map and Torque-Request Map

Accelerator maps and torque-request maps are calibrated control relationships that turn driver input into a requested propulsion or regenerative-braking torque before the motor controller determines phase current.

How the maps differ

  • Accelerator map: translates pedal position, often together with speed and drive mode, into an initial driver-demand value.
  • Torque-request map or logic: converts that demand into an axle or motor torque request and arbitrates it with traction control, stability control, battery power, temperature, component limits, and fault states.

The labels and number of maps vary by manufacturer. They are not direct motor-voltage commands, and a more aggressive pedal response does not by itself mean that the motor can produce more peak torque. Changing a drive mode can alter the pedal-to-torque relationship without changing the motor's physical capability.
