Crash Pulse
Last modified: Aug 05, 2026
A crash pulse is the acceleration or deceleration time history during a collision. Its amplitude, duration, and shape describe how quickly velocity changes as the structure deforms.
Effects
The pulse is not the same as impact speed or velocity change. Its shape affects occupant motion and restraint timing, while intrusion remains a separate risk. Vehicle structure, mass, collision partner, and impact configuration can change it. See Structural Safety Systems.
