Crash Load Path
Last modified: Aug 05, 2026
A crash load path is the intended route through structures that carries and distributes collision forces. Rails, subframes, sills, cross-members, pillars, and roof rails can form paths for different impact directions.
Function
Crushable sections absorb energy, while stronger sections help keep concentrated loads away from the passenger compartment. In an EV, the floor, side sills, and battery enclosure may influence those paths. See Structural Safety Systems for the system.
