Vulnerable Road Users

Last modified: Aug 05, 2026

Vulnerable road users (VRUs) are people outside a protective vehicle cabin, including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists. Safety assessment can examine both impact protection—how the vehicle front affects injury—and crash avoidance, such as automatic braking or steering in defined scenarios; the exact users, target types, speeds, directions, and scoring rules depend on the programme, so see Safety Testing for context.
