Upholstery Durability, Repairability, and Color Transfer

Last modified: Aug 05, 2026

Upholstery durability, repairability, and color transfer describe separate properties: durability is resistance to wear, repairability is whether damage can be restored without replacing the full seat, and color transfer is pigment moving between contacting materials. Abrasion or rubbing-fastness results do not establish repairability, while visible staining is not automatically surface wear; compare the material, finish, test method, cleaning limits, and replacement construction; see Seat Upholstery and Interior Materials, Air Quality, and Circularity.
