Static and Dynamic ADAS Calibration

Static and dynamic ADAS calibration are vehicle-specific procedures that restore the geometric reference used by cameras, radar, lidar, and other driver-assistance sensors.

How the two methods differ

Static calibration is performed with the vehicle stationary. A workshop positions specified targets, patterns, or reflectors at controlled distances and angles, then runs the manufacturer’s diagnostic routine.

Dynamic calibration is performed while driving the vehicle through a prescribed road procedure. The system uses lane markings, roadside features, or other environmental references while required speed, distance, weather, and road conditions are met.

Some vehicles require one method; others require both in a specified order. The methods are not interchangeable choices for the workshop. The exact procedure depends on the vehicle, sensor, software, repair, alignment, and manufacturer instructions.

Calibration may be required after windshield or bumper replacement, sensor removal, collision repair, wheel alignment, suspension work, or a stored calibration fault. A completed routine confirms that its acceptance criteria were met; it does not prove that a damaged mount, unsuitable glass, blocked sensor, or incorrect wheel alignment has been repaired.
