Skateboard Platform
Skateboard platform is an informal term for an EV architecture that places the battery pack low in a floor structure, with drive and chassis components arranged around a broadly flat base.
Architecture, not a complete vehicle
The image resembles a skateboard: a long central deck between axle modules. This layout can support a long wheelbase, short overhangs, a low centre of gravity, and flexible body designs. It may also simplify sharing core components across several models.
There is no single regulated definition. Some manufacturers use the term for a complete rolling chassis, while others use it more loosely for an underfloor battery architecture. A vehicle can have a dedicated EV platform without being marketed as a skateboard, and a skateboard layout does not guarantee a flat cabin floor, low weight, high efficiency, or easy battery replacement.
