Range Estimator
A range estimator predicts how far an EV can travel with the energy currently available. Drivers often call the displayed value a guess-o-meter.
How the estimate is produced
The vehicle combines state of charge or estimated available energy with an assumption about future consumption. That assumption may use recent driving, a longer consumption history, selected drive mode, climate-control demand, temperature, and—when a destination is active—planned speed, elevation, weather, and charging stops.
The display is an estimate, not a direct measurement of distance stored in the battery. It can fall rapidly after leaving slow traffic for a motorway, rise after a descent, or change when a route is entered. A simple estimator based mainly on recent consumption can react differently from a route-aware prediction for a specific destination.
Drivers should read the number together with battery percentage, route-arrival prediction, and suitable reserve. Accuracy is best judged at the destination across comparable trips, not by expecting the displayed distance to decrease exactly one kilometre for every kilometre driven.
