Passenger-Compartment Intrusion

Last modified: Aug 05, 2026

Passenger-compartment intrusion is movement of components into occupant space during a crash. Pedals, dashboards, steering columns, doors, pillars, floors, or roofs can move inward.

Meaning

Intrusion reduces survival space and can alter seat, belt, or airbag geometry. Test results apply to the impact configuration, and low intrusion alone does not prove low injury risk. In an EV, cabin intrusion is distinct from battery-enclosure deformation. See Structural Safety Systems.
