ISOFIX, LATCH, and Top Tether

Last modified: Aug 05, 2026

ISOFIX, LATCH, and top tether are related child-restraint attachments. ISOFIX standardizes lower seat-bight anchorages; in the US, LATCH means Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children and combines two lower anchorages with a tether anchorage.

Why top tether is separate

A top tether is an upper attachment used with lower anchorages to control restraint movement. Anchor locations and permitted combinations are vehicle-specific, so follow manuals. See Child Restraints and Seat Safety.
