Far-Side Impact and Far-Side Protection
Last modified: Aug 05, 2026
A far-side impact strikes the side opposite an occupant. The body can move across the cabin, contact the interior, or collide with another occupant.
Protection and assessment
Belts, seat geometry, centre airbags, and other countermeasures limit lateral excursion and head contact. Euro NCAP evaluates far-side protection with sled, virtual, and full-scale evidence. It complements near-side protection, where intrusion is the main threat. See Airbags and Safety Testing.
