Exit Warning
Exit warning alerts occupants when opening a door could place them in the path of an approaching cyclist, vehicle, or other supported road user. It is especially useful when the vehicle is parked beside moving traffic.
What it does
Rear-facing or corner sensors monitor the area alongside and behind the vehicle. When an occupant reaches for a handle or begins opening a door, the system can flash a light, sound a warning, or provide haptic feedback. Some designs briefly resist or delay door opening, but an alert does not necessarily control the lock.
Sensor range, target types, activation time after parking, and door coverage differ. Fast cyclists, small targets, sensor obstruction, closely parked vehicles, and unusual approach angles can reduce warning time or prevent detection. Occupants must look behind before opening a door and should use the far-hand opening technique where practical.
