Automatic High-Voltage Disconnect and Pyrotechnic Fuse

Last modified: Aug 05, 2026

Automatic high-voltage disconnect and pyrotechnic fuse describe related ways an EV isolates external high-voltage circuits after a severe collision: contactors may open electrically, while a pyrotechnic device irreversibly severs a current path when triggered. Neither removes energy stored inside the battery, so responder verification and vehicle-specific procedures remain necessary; see Post-Crash Systems and Rescue for the full post-crash sequence and safety boundary.
