Approved Seating Position and Physical Seat
Last modified: Aug 05, 2026
Approved seating position and physical seat are not the same claim. An approved position is a location recognized in the vehicle’s certified seating and restraint layout; a cushion, removable chair, or marketed “seat” may not carry that status.
Why the distinction matters
Approval determines which belt, anchorage, airbag, and occupant requirements apply. Count and use the positions identified for travel, not visible cushions alone. See Child Restraints and Seat Safety.
