Acoustic Laminated Glass
Acoustic laminated glass is automotive glazing with a sound-damping interlayer designed to reduce selected exterior noise transmitted into the cabin.
What it changes
The interlayer sits between glass plies and dissipates part of the vibration that would otherwise pass through the pane as sound. Suppliers tune acoustic interlayers for particular frequency ranges, so a reduction stated without the pane construction, frequency range, and test method is incomplete. Acoustic glazing is used in windshields, side windows, rear windows, and roofs. In an EV, reduced combustion-engine masking can make aerodynamic noise more noticeable; treating the relevant panes can therefore improve perceived cabin quietness. AGC Automotive — Advanced laminated acoustic glass
The term does not mean that every source of cabin noise is reduced. Noise entering through tires, wheelhouses, body mounts, door seals, or ventilation paths requires other measures. Acoustic laminated glass also differs from ordinary laminated safety glass because its interlayer is formulated specifically for sound damping.
